1. Feeding time is considered a battle time for you. 2. Trying to have your children finish their meal seems like an impossible task. 3. Your kids are too picky and critical about what you serve on their plate.
Does this sound like you?
Please do not be too frustrated, dear Mummy. Do know that you are not the only one facing this problem. There are so many other mummies out there who face real tension while trying to feed their young tots.
Now, coping with picky children is indeed a challenge. But do try these tips to cope with little fussy eaters.
Do not struggle
If your child refuses to eat, do not force or rush him. Let him take his own time. Have a little patience. It is okay to feed while he is playing. Having him eat is more important than to have him sit but not eating.
Try new foods again and again
Fussy eaters tend to be very selective on what they eat. If you wish to feed him something he is not familiar with, do it again and again. He might refuse to eat it on first attempt. But if you serve it again a few days later, he might change his mind. It also helps if you can eat the new food in front of him. He will be tempted to eat the food after watching you eat.
Do not over-feed your child
Once your child says, "I'm full", it means that he is no longer hungry. Let your child learn to trust his body. Over-feeding or forcing your child to eat will make him feel that meal time is not much of a fun.
Let your child feed himself
Babies around 8 months old are already able to hold finger foods by themselves. Allow your child to feed by himself. He will learn to distinguish the food he likes and dislike better. This will also allow him to have better control of his own body.
Reflect yourself
Your child will most likely be a fussy eater if you or your partner is a fussy eater. Any history of eating disorder could affect your child's appetite too. Be a good example to your child. How can you expect him to eat greens while you on the other hand also refuse to eat greens?
Your child needs nutrients to grow up strong and healthy. Do not let him starve just because he refuses to eat what you serve. Be creative. Have variations to his daily menu. You can add your own ideas on these tips on how to cope with little fussy eaters. Do not be afraid to try out need ways to feed your child. When you succeed, share them with your friends.
