Night Crying (six months to one year)

- It is very natural for a baby to wake up and cry during the night secondary to boredom.

- Sleep experts contend that babies need to fall back to sleep on their own.

- If you know you won't be consistent, don't even start the process of "crying it out."

- A second way, one that takes longer but is less heart rending, is to let baby cry for a few minutes, then go to him/her for a gentle pat and reassuring words. Then leave again. Leave without picking him/her up and without staying with her long enough to allow her to fall sleep in your comforting presence.
